To Judge or Not to Judge?

It’s not uncommon to compare oneself with the peers especially in the age of social media. Or, strike a comparison with colleagues who are better performers. But has it ever occurred to you that it is very little we know of what circumstances the individual has had to deal with or challenges which may have required immense resilience? At the same time what about those who we think have missed the bus and are left behind? How do we know whether they are at all left behind? What are the parameters we would use to judge success- the brands they wear, the salary they draw or the number of houses they own?

Strange are the ways of life and its own teachings. Certain things indeed are in our control and over some, it’s never there. What if somebody’s life has moved at a slower pace, be it monetary, health or a myriad other reasons, do we have the right to judge them?

But, we do. Me inclusive. That’s how I guess we are oriented. But, this thought did occur to me that perhaps there was nothing in his control and all he could do is quietly wait for winter to go away. And, if he has not emerged a winner in the game, it is no fault of his. At the same time, I cannot but look up to those who could be there where they always wanted to be in their lives. That, of course, does come with its own share of being a little selfish at times as well, perhaps, but that is justified.

So, this moral debate of being judgemental may not be just for me. You could be the one too or maybe already are. How do we stop putting others on a pedestal or dismiss some for no fault of theirs? I haven’t figured out yet..but hopefully will soon. Till then let me enjoy my cup of Sunday morning tea. Hope you have a good day ahead!

Thank you for reading ☺
